Garden maintenance in June

 Category Gardens, Maintance
19 June 2026

In June, garden maintenance tasks are essential to ensure a healthy and vibrant garden. Here are some key tasks to consider for your garden this month:
  • Watering: Regularly water your garden to prevent splitting and blossom end rot, especially for tomatoes. Adjust watering frequency based on the type of plants and local weather conditions.

  • Mowing: For traditional lawns, mow regularly to maintain a healthy lawn. During No Mow May, consider leaving some areas un-mown to promote biodiversity.

  • Composting: Utilise the composting material from your garden to enrich your soil. Fill your compost bin with a mix of nitrogen-rich and carbon-rich materials, and turn the contents weekly for optimal composting.

  • Weed Control: Hoe borders regularly to manage weeds effectively. Prepare for drought by mulching around plants and ensuring the grass is not cut too short.

  • Planting: Plant out summer bedding and support climbing or tall plants as they grow. Thin out fruit on fruit trees to encourage better growth.

By following these maintenance tips, you can keep your garden looking its best and ensure a successful growing season

Christmas is a crucial month for garden maintenance

17 December 2025
Christmas is a crucial month for garden maintenance, with tasks that prepare your garden for winter and set the stage for spring growth. Lets look at some key Gardening Tasks for December:   Clear Debris: One of the most important tasks is to clear fallen leaves and debris from your garden. This helps prevent diseases like fusarium patch and keeps your garden looking tidy. Use the leaves to create leaf mold, which can be a great mulch for your garden.  Watering and Care for Houseplants: Reduce the frequency of watering houseplants and ensure they are not placed on cold windowsills at night. Regularly wipe dust off the leaves of plants like snake plants to keep them healthy.  Planting and Sowing: If the ground is not frozen, you can still plant winter crops like broad beans and winter lettuce. Consider using cloches to protect these plants from harsh weather.  Pruning: December is a good time to prune deciduous trees and shrubs, such as maples and birches, to prevent sap bleeding in spring. This also helps maintain their shape and health.  Pond Maintenance: If you have a pond, prevent it from freezing completely by using a floating ball or melting holes in the ice with hot water. This helps maintain a habitat for aquatic life.  Prepare for Spring: Start planning for spring by considering what plants you want to grow. This is also a good time to repair garden structures like fences and trellises. ...
